Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Joyce Peters entered private practice with the law firm of Calfee, Halter & Griswold in Cleveland, Ohio, where she engaged in a general practice, including both business and individual legal matters. She then accepted an appointment into The Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the Army, where she served for more than 22 years in a variety of important positions, including Staff Judge Advocate for both Fort Lee, Virginia, and Fort Lewis, Washington; chief litigation counsel for military personnel matters in the Office of The Judge Advocate General; chief legislative counsel in the Office of the Secretary of the Army; and Senior Military Assistant & Executive Officer to the Secretary of the Army.
When Ms. Peters left the Army as a colonel, she moved to the U.S. Department of Justice as the Executive Assistant & Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs. She later served as Bar Counsel for the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, where she was responsible for enforcing the professional conduct and ethics rules applicable to attorneys licensed in the District of Columbia.
Upon joining the law firm of Arquilla & Poe, PLC, in 2006, Ms. Peters brought a breadth of experience in both public service and private practice. Since 2006, Ms. Peters has been assisting clients with negotiations and hearings concerning divorce and family law issues; preparing wills, trusts and other documents related to estate planning; and acting as counsel for clients during IG investigations, security clearance proceedings, grade determination boards and other adverse administrative actions. Clients with issues involving uniquely military or governmental issues especially appreciate the knowledge and expertise Ms. Peters provides as a result of her diverse military and federal experience.
